Goalkeeper Testimonials
We've had the absolute pleasure of working with some incredible people since starting The Modern-Day GK back in 2016.
2024 was a huge year for some of the goalkeepers we worked with. There were 5 goalkeepers who all signed professional deals with clubs. Two of those goalkeepers signed for Premier League teams. Four out of the five goalkeepers had come directly from non-league.
Although these are the 'success' stories people look at...
However success can come in many different forms.
Some of the things we are most proud of are creating an environment where goalkeepers have built a real love for training. They know they are developing. The other is that some of the GKs who have come to our camps have now become genuine best friends.
We have had goalkeepers travelling from all over the world to us for their own individual training camp or they have come to one of our bigger group camps.
It's an amazing feeling knowing there are people out there who can see the value we can offer.
We could never guarantee that you will become a professional footballer, but what we can guarantee is that you will be better than you ever thought you could be and you'll develop a stronger passion for goalkeeping. You might also make some new best friends along the way.

"Working with The Modern-Day Gk team has been a game-changer for me. From the very start, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my overall goalkeeping abilities. The skills and techniques I've learned have given me a whole new level of confidence in my play. These sessions have not only improved my technical abilities but have also improved my understanding of the game from a goalkeeper's perspective. I now approach situations with a more tactical mindset, especiallywhen coming off my line to prevent crosses and other potential chances.
What I’ve appreciated most about my experience with The Modern-Day Goalkeeper is the focus on development without fear of making mistakes. Training is a safe space where I can experiment and learn! This environment has encouraged me to try new things and as a result, I’ve grown as a player. The emphasis on building skills through repetition, learning from mistakes and receiving feedback has been beneficial for my progress. The No Grip gloves have really helped improve my handling and focus, allowing me to feel more secure with every catch and save.Once again, thank you to Lee, Mark and Shaun. Your guidance and invaluable knowledge have made a massive difference in my game, and I feel like I'm becoming the goalkeeper I’ve always wanted to be. I’m excited to continue learning with you all and to see how much further I can improve."

"Wow, I would be here all day if I listed off all the things the guys at Modern-Day GK have done/taught me over the past 3 or so years. Not only have they been great coaches but great role models too.
Training is such a safe space where mistakes are fine as that is where you learn.
I feel that is the reason why I feel so confident now as that was not the way before I started working with them. There philosophy is so different from every other coach, as every action they teach has a purpose and can be explained.
It is also directly transferrable to a game as every exercise is designed to be game realistic.
So many different things to learn “the modern way” and I truly believe they’re revolutionising goalkeeping.
I’ve been using the non grip gloves for 3 years now, and I can safely say that this has helped my handling so much. Not only are they great for helping your handling, but also such a great tool for your confidence.
I couldn’t recommend using them enough to any GK.
It doesn’t just stop on the pitch, they are always there for you through the good and bad days, for which I can’t personally thank them enough!
I can’t recommend them enough!
Deciding to work the Modern-Day GK is the best decision I have ever made; as I would be nowhere near where I am today without them.
I will never be able to say in words how thankful I am for everything.
Thank you
Lee, Shaun and Mark."

"I came to one of the first camps in Manchester. At the time, I hadn’t been playing for long—about two years—and was quite low on confidence. I had a lot of things I needed to work on, but the first camp changed everything for me. My total perspective on goalkeeping shifted, and I loved working with Mark, Shaun, and Lee. They were always super friendly, and it was easy to ask them questions.
I then attended another camp in Sunderland, which I loved just as much. I met new people there, some of whom I’m now very good friends with. I also gained invaluable knowledge that you simply can’t get anywhere else. Soon after this camp, I started working with Mark, Shaun, and Lee more regularly.
Since then, I’ve improved massively over the past three years. My kicking, 1v1s, and scoops have come on leaps and bounds compared to when I first started working with them. Along the way, I’ve learned so many small details that make a huge difference.
Now, three years later, I’m a totally different goalkeeper, and that transformation wouldn’t have been possible without all the help from Mark, Shaun, and Lee."

"Since I first met The Modern-Day GK, the way I view goalkeeping, how I play, my mindset, and my life in general have completely changed for the better.I first met the boys at a 2-day camp in Dublin, and initially I’d never felt so uncomfortable in a session. I couldn’t catch anything, there was so much new information I’d never even thought about being given to me, it was like nothing I had ever experienced before in a session. By the end of the two days though I couldn’t get enough. I’d never developed so quickly, I felt like my ability and understanding of the game had doubled in just a few hours of coaching.I kept in touch with the lads and was lucky enough to spend a week with them in Tenerife at a training camp. Not only was the information even better than the two day camp, as well as the level of goalies training with me being great, I also met some of my best mates there, and got to enjoy a holiday with them as well as train with them and learn from them. For anyone considering going to their overseas camps like the Tenerife one I went to, I strongly urge you to take the jump and do it, going was the best decision I’ve made in my whole life.I’ve since continued to work with the boys both 1-to-1 and in small groups, and I look back over the past year of working with them and I can’t believe how much better I’ve become as a goalie. In the space of roughly 20-30 hours of coaching, they’ve transformed me from a goalkeeper who could barely make academy teams to signing my first professional contract with an EFL club a few months ago. I understand the position so much better now so that even when they’re not there in my team training sessions or matches, when I make a mistake I’m always able to use the information they’ve given me to self-reflect and understand how I can improve.Lee has been a person I’ve always looked to for advice since I’ve met him. He’s always available to help me, and he goes above and beyond for me. In football there’s a lot of people with their own agendas in mind when advising you, so having someone like Lee in my corner who I know I can rely on is a game-changer. As someone in the game, he’s seen it all before and can help me avoid the same mistakes he made.A lot of people seem to question the non grip gloves. I’ve heard people say they ruin confidence, or that they encourage bad habits. In my experience, they do exactly the opposite. The feeling of confidence when you take them off after wearing them and put on latex gloves, it feels impossible to drop a ball. They find you out for every imperfection in your catching technique so that you become as close to perfect as possible the longer you use them. For anyone thinking of getting in touch with MDGK or working with them, I did it and they completely changed my life. A year after connecting with them, I’m a professional goalkeeper, with the best advisor in the game in my corner, and I’ve met some of my best mates for life through them. I would absolutely recommend getting in touch with them."

"I want to say a special thanks to the guys over at The Modern-Day GK for being there with me through the good and bad days.
Words can't describe how grateful I am for having them close to me.
Every time I come home from England, I feel like a new and better keeper.
Learned new things and got new ideas to try. I can learn more in a week with them than I've done over a month before. No doubt that they know what they're talking about.
And then the things they have done for me off the pitch are priceless. They know, I know.
Thank you, Lee, Shaun, and Mark"

"My overall experience was extremely positive.
Deciding to train with Modern-Day GK and seeking their guidance will be an integral part of my goalkeeping career in the years to come. The reason I chose to train with Modern-Day GKs was because of their overall training philosophy.
The feedback and overall sessions are completely different from what I am used to in the US. Not only are mistakes okay, but they are encouraged. When you have three sets of eyes on you at all times critiquing your game, it really does make a difference.
I truly believe that my experience with Lee, Mark, and Shaun has changed my game for the better, and I look forward to training with them for the years to come.
But it doesn’t stop there. The guidance I received afterwards, when I came back to the US to finish my season, has been the most valuable asset of all."

"I came to England to visit MDGK for 5 days, but what a brilliant 5 days it was.
I learned so much from them. From handling with their special training gloves, to improving my footwork a lot as well.
They’re not just amazing trainers on the pitch, but also very kind and awesome off the pitch.
I'll definitely recommend them if you want to improve your goalkeeping!"

“The decision to start training with The Modern-Day GK, I’d say could be the best decision I have ever made in football, over the last 9 months training with the boys, I have improved tenfold.
I’ve been training every 2 weeks, commuting from Wakefield to Sunderland. The use of the VOS training gloves has been massive for my handling, this is evident from how well I have been playing in my games.
The family-like atmosphere at the Modern-Day GK makes it very enjoyable and I would highly recommend anyone who wants to train with them that they should just go and do it.”
